Dell server rack cabinet

With the upsurge of computer and internet usage, bigger systems must be used for locations that use multiple servers. Ever since the first URL, Symbolics.com, registered in 1985, the internet has grown so large that no one even knows how many people use it, how big it is, or how many websites there are. Many businesses typically require a server room, which is a room usually located within the building of the business that houses smaller arrangements for servers. Larger servers, however, are generally found in data centers. No matter how big or small the server sizes are, they will usually need server rack enclosures to house them.

Server rack sizes are based on the rack unit size, or RU. These different sizes are built around their ability to house either a 19 or 23 inch rack. One rack unit is considered to be 1.75 inches high. Since the average rack size is 42 units, this means it can hold approximately six feet of server equipment. Depending on how many computer servers are needed and how large the racks are, a simple RU calculation must be determined. For example, if a company has 10 4U sized servers, then this would come out to 40U. In this case, the standard 42U size would be one of the more ideal server rack sizes for these servers. After the server rack sizes have been determined, the next step is to determine how to keep the servers from overheating.

Server enclosures have been made to be fireproof in order to protect the data of a server from fire damage. This is because server rooms used to be filled with halogen gas for fireproofing, but this method was abandoned due to its negative impact on human health and the ozone layer. Deciding how to cool the servers is another thing to think about as well when deciding on server cabinets. As opposed to merely keeping the room cool, some server racks are even equipped with the capability to air condition the servers themselves.

It can be easy to take advantage of internet usage, but remember that a lot of thought must go into considering how to properly house the servers being used. If servers are housed incorrectly, this could mean for potentially dangerous situations and the possibility of the servers going down. Finding the correct server rack sizes will ensure that the servers operate correctly and efficiently without the risk of failure.

Hmm, I remember catching a peek into our server room before at my office. I saw all these computer looking things and flashing lights up in these towers, it looked complicated. But I did not realize even MORE work was done into measuring which ones are needed!
