Spicy hummus

Hummus calories are among the lowest of any food on the market. Hummus calories tend to add up to around 25 for each 1 tablespoon serving size. Although that might be relieving to hear, what is hummus? Hummus spread is a traditional Middle Eastern and Arabic dip or spread which is made from mashed, cooked chickpeas that are blended with tahini, lemon juice, olive oil and salt and pepper. Judging by the hummus calories and hearty taste, it makes for the perfect staple to a low calorie diet.

My favorite easy hummus recipe is definitely the roasted garlic hummus dip. The only ingredients it takes in addition to what I previously mentioned are garlic and (optionally) butter. You can cut out some of the hummus calories of this particular recipe by excluding the butter from your batch. Either way, you will not be disappointed with the outcome. It only takes about ten minutes to prep and an hour total to cook, and it is a delicious dish to pass at a potluck or picnic this Summer.

Whichever way you look at it, this spread is a great way to stay slim and eat deliciously. If the low levels of hummus calories are not enough of an allure, consider the other health benefits that hummus offers. Chickpeas are naturally rich in proteins and have been known to prevent buildups of cholesterol in the bloodstream. Tahini is also a high protein food, but it also acts as a great source of calcium, while lemon juice contains antioxidants which play a large role in reducing stress levels in the body and promoting a healthy immune system to fight off bacteria and viruses.

Pound for pound, hummus is one of the best snack foods which will help you keep off the pounds and promote general health. With low hummus calories, high protein levels, and a strong immune system, you will be ready for anything which may come your way.
